Dave Tollerton has been taking photographs for as long as he can remember.
He has specialised in wildlife photography since the mid seventies, photographing
extensively in the UK and abroad. Visiting India, Africa,
North America and the Falkland Islands, and many places in Europe, his work broadened
to include not only wildlife, but also the surrounding environment.
Sigun Tollerton has been a keen photographer since the age of 10, taking images of anything
that interested her. She was particularly keen on monochrome printing. Through her late teens and twenties,
she spent a lot of time mountain walking in the UK and Europe, which led naturally to a love of landscape
photography, and gradually to the wildlife within it.
Dave and Sigrun joined forces in 1995, and Sigrun's interest in wildlife
photography increased. As a partnership they now describe themselves as natural history
photographers, which includes all forms of wildlife, with a bias towards birds. But they also enjoy
travel and landscape work, and in their
lectures they aim to illustrate the wildlife of the places they have visited in the
context of the environment. They devised the "Wings and Things" logo
to reflect the concept of photographing everything natural between land and sky.
Dave and Sigrun are continually travelling in search of new images. They are particularly keen on South and Central America, visiting Venezuela, Argentina, the Galapagos Islands, and Costa Rica. They have also been to India, and have recently visited Australia.
For both of them, photography began as a purely "spare-time" venture, but in 2000 Dave
took early retirement, and in 2001 Sigrun left her career as an industrial chemist. They
now devote all their time to photography, travel, lecturing and writing. As well as continuing to visit far-flung places, they are spending more time on British and European
subjects, with Norway and Scotland both favourite destinations. They are currently supplying a number of stock libraries with their images, and Sigrun also runs courses on digital photography as part of Pixel to Picture.
Dave and Sigrun are active members of the Royal Photographic Society, and
have both attained their Associateships in Nature photography.
